Road trip! It's Memorial Day weekend so my husband, the kids, and I drove to Silverspring,MD to visit the cousins. Kathy had a Restaurant.com certificate for this joint so we came over for dinner on our first day after we had a relaxing afternoon at the Brookside Garden. Definitely a small tacky place with a big kareoke machine in the back corner. Tablecloths were dirty...-1 star! We sat down and Karen (my 11 month old) immediately starts picking at dried up rice and sauce all around the table...-1 star! Besides that, we see one of the staff sweeping dust balls and beer caps out from under a fridge! -1 star again UGH! They no habla ingles guys! We had to keep repeating what we wanted to order so we eneded up pointing at the menus. Food took more than 30 minutes to get to our table....hungry! We were the only customers there at the time, don't see why it took so long. I would say prices are decent for the large portions. Chicken fajitas were black on the bottom, overcooked. Rice and beans were pretty good, the pico de gallo was dry, wheres the juice? Derek had a seafood platter that had a dressing similar to ceviche marinade, made the fried seafood soggy. Kathy got a beef burrito which was on the small side yet tasted alright. Kit ordered some chicken and rice dish that came with a special green sauce that we ended up using in all our food! That green sauce had a mild cilantro flavor and a nice kick, made all our dishes fantistico! Few words too sum up this review, we would not be visiting again.....

I love this place! It's a small place but the food is great! I have tried the papa a la huacaina and it is so delicious. My family visit here a few times and the food never fails! I love the lomo saltado. It has very good taste and juicy! I also like the Arroz Chaufa de Pollo! Will be visiting again!

I love all the dishes that are served here. O.k I get it it's an authentic El Salvadorian/Peruvian restaurant so English may not be the first language spoken there. I'm not there for that I'm there for their delicious Lomo Saltado or even their Pollo picante. That's just a few favorites of mine. If your looking for home-style cooking this is a place you should check out.

My son and I had dinner here the other night after trekking to The Chicken Place and found it closed. We split a chicken quesadilla appetizer which I must say was probably the best quesadilla I have ever had. It was just perfect and had some body to it, not all flat and oily like some places make it. We shared a plate of beef fajitas which were okay, nothing special. My son had his favorite drink - passion fruit - known as maracuya. It was a weekday night so things were quiet - we were the only diners. This didn't stop the single waitress from serving us with a smile and being very attentive to our needs. We will definitely be back and next time will try some of the house special dishes and of course, another quesadilla starter. P.S. A bonus was that street parking right outside was free after 6:30 PM.

Stumbled across this restaurant by accident. The papa rellena was out of this world, it is like a giant tater tot with beef stuffed inside. The papa a la huancaina wasn't not good, basically boiled potatoes with a yellow sauce that was lacking flavor. The horchata was a let down. We also got pupusas that were alright if it wasn't for the salsa it would be super plain. I got a steak dish that was $15.95 that was too expensive for what I ate. The steak was alright but kind of dry & was lacking flavor, the French fries were so soggy & not good that I didn't even bother to finish it or take it home. My sister got a chicken quesadilla that I could easily make & it wasn't even that good. These dishes were all recommendations from the owner of the restaurant but only one was worth going back for, the papa rellena. This restaurant is quite expensive for the food that we got. I believe 3 stars is very generous and it would have been lower if the owner wasn't so accommodating & took the time to talk to us.

Great food, good prices, excellent service. It is a small restaurant that made me feel like I was in another country for a little while. The owner [Luis] personally waited on our table, he was very nice to speak with [in both perfect English and my jumbled Spanish], and the food was excellent. I ate tamales, fried yuca, salad, grilled chicken breast, and pupusas. I felt comfortable, welcome, and appreciated as a customer. It was a great meal.

This place is alright. I have eaten at this place a couple of times and it doesn't do anything to stick out from the other Peruvian or Salvadoran restaurants in the area.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
